What is Science Academy

A research desk for supplement science

The 1Q Science Academy is the link between the science lab and supplement production. As the science education arm of 1Q Health, a German supplement CDMO (Contract Development & Manufacturing Organization) group, we help anyone interested in the latest supplement research understand it and put it to use faster in product development.

Scientific papers are often very complex. It might be hard to grasp what exactly the study findings mean for supplement development and how they could be used there. Our authors are scientists themselves, so they know the mechanism behind the research but can turn complex concepts and terms into easy-to-understand, practical advice.

In addition, the internet is full of articles and white papers about how to use different ingredients for different health indications. They might be written by the ingredient suppliers themselves and be very biased. Or you might doubt the credibility of the source altogether. The authors who write for the Science Academy are real experts with years in the field and multiple scientific research projects behind them. They will only write about ingredients or health indications based on true science, and aren’t afraid to list pros and cons as well.

Lastly, we don’t just tell you how science works, we’ll also show it. Through our research method webinars and product concept workshops we can offer you advice based specifically on your formulation.

Who it’s for

Built for teams launching science-backed supplements

Consumers want more and more evidence that a supplement does what it claims. We help supplement teams of all sizes create and launch science-backed, high-quality supplements.

Scaling manufacturers

If you’re a formulation or R&D lead, or a regulatory or quality manager extending an existing range, you need a defensible evidence position for every ingredient, a dosage rationale that survives regulatory review, and a clear line between what a study showed and what your label can say.

Here’s what we offer:

  • Ingredient deep-dives with product concepts and dosage suggestions
  • Claim substantiation dossiers and evidence gap analysis
  • Masterclasses and workshops on the ingredients in your own pipeline
  • In vitro and ex vivo cell studies for ingredient efficacy testing

First-time founders

If you’re a founder or small team launching your first supplement or OTC product, you need to know which ingredient stories hold up before committing to a formula, a contract manufacturer, or a claim, and what a credible study would cost to run.

Here’s what we offer:

  • Plain-English evidence briefs, no pharmacology degree assumed
  • Concept screening before you pay for a first production run
  • Study design and budget guidance for a first trial

FAQ

Learn more about us

What is the 1Q Science Academy?

The 1Q Science Academy is where 1Q Health Group, a German CDMO group, shares its scientific knowledge on supplement development. We read the peer-reviewed literature on ingredients and health indications and turn it into evidence briefs, publication summaries, webinars, masterclasses, and study designs for supplement companies.

Does the 1Q Science Academy sell ingredients?

No. We don’t manufacture or distribute ingredients, so our ingredient reviews are based on the science alone.

Which sources do you use?

Only peer-reviewed sources: systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and randomized controlled trials indexed in PubMed, each cited with its PMID or DOI. Regulatory documents such as EFSA opinions and EMA/HMPC monographs are cited separately and clearly labeled as regulatory rather than clinical evidence. On occasion, we also draw on research from VivaCell Biotechnology, part of the 1Q Health Group.

Who is this website for?

Supplement startups, contract manufacturers, and founders preparing to launch their first product, typically formulation and R&D leads, regulatory and quality managers, and founders who need an evidence position before committing to a formula.

Can you design a clinical study for a new supplement?

Yes. The Product Concept Lab produces study designs, endpoint selection, claims strategy, and an evidence gap analysis, and advises on what the research will and won’t support before a trial budget is committed.
