Dr. Kurt Appel

Kurt Appel is CEO of VivaCell Biotechnology GmbH, part of the 1Q Health Group, a position he has held since 2001.

He specialises in the safety aspects of natural products and has managed a range of safety studies on botanicals including Harpagophytum, Hypericum, Passiflora and St. John’s wort.

Before joining VivaCell, he spent about a decade as the responsible scientist at a contract research organisation working on metabolism and drug interaction, and headed the BSE Labor Südwest.

Dr. Bernd Fiebich

CEO & co-founder, VivaCell Biotechnology GmbH

He is an internationally leading scientist in the field of inflammation, neuroinflammation, and cellular signaling and has been working in the field of natural products for many years, especially on analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of phytomedicines and botanicals.

He has guided many projects in the field of drug and extract development and has published more than 300 research papers and more than 240 PubMed-listed publications, with an h-index of 76 and an i10-index of 220 (Google Scholar).

Remco Verkaik

Head of Science, 1Q Health

Remco Verkaik is Head of Science at 1Q Health. A classically trained medical biologist, he has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between rigorous scientific research and nutritional, nutraceutical and lifestyle applications.

After a research career, he built marketing and sales expertise in the pharmaceutical industry — a combination that gives him a firsthand view of both the power and the pitfalls of biomedical research once it reaches a commercial product.

He co-founded EHF Production, part of the 1Q Health Group, together with Jan Pieter Stout and Jeroen Janssen.
